1) What is an Archive, Category Group or Category?
1) What is an Archive, Category Group or Category? You may prefer to think of the archive as an electronic filing cabinet for your reports, with "Category Groups" being the individual drawers and "Categories" being the folders within those drawers. Unlike a hard-copy filing cabinet, SpooliT allows a report to be filed into multiple Categories, which is similar to having multiple indexes to retrieve or locate the report.
Firstly, check that the AS400 component has been installed on your AS400 - the library name is usually Spool__400. This issue sometimes occur when you first install SpooliT and you will need to provide QSECOFR password to continue. If the library does not exist do the following: Check that you can make a connection to your AS400 via an FTP client as outlined below: a) From the start menu select "Run" open ("Your AS400 IP address") ALSO ensure that if you are running a Software firewall on your AS400, you enable FTP access from external clients. If your file system is IFS check your AS400 FTP settings as below: Change FTP Attributes (CHGFTPA) ------------------------------------------ Type choices, press Enter. Autostart servers . . . . . . . *YES *YES, *NO, *SAME Number of initial servers . . . 3 1-20, *SAME, *DFT Inactivity timeout . . . . . . . 300 0-2147483647, *SAME, *DFT Coded character set identifier 00819 1-65533, *SAME, *DFT Server mapping tables: Outgoing EBCDIC/ASCII table . *CCSID Name, *SAME, *CCSID, *DFT Library . . . . . . . . . . 3) Is it absolutely necessary to set up a connection as QSECOFR? No it is not. Make sure the UserID specified here is authorized to access iSeries or AS400 objects. In particular they will require authority to Output Queues and Spool Files. If a user requires the ability to create, move and delete spool files, then ensure they have *SPLFCTL authority. This profile should also have a authority to run all objects in the SpooliT library.
4) Do you have some on-line help examples or a demo? For more information please see the SpooliT Case Study. To request a a web based demonstration click here.
5) Is it possible to use Spoolit without *SPLCTL authority? Yes, in the following circumstances: a) The user has *JOBCTL special authority and the output queue has the value *YES for the Operator controlled (OPRCTL) parameter. b)The user has *ADD, *DLT, and *READ data rights to the output queue, and the output queue has the Authority to check (AUTCHK) parameter defined as *DTAAUT. c)The user is the owner of the output queue and the output queue has the AUTCHK parameter defined as *OWNER.
6) What is ALIASing A Spool File may be categorized into only one Category within a Category Group BUT may be categorized into many Categories in different Category Groups (known as Aliases).
Only one copy of this file should exist on your computer (in your Windows\System folder). Use the "Find - Files and Folders" function on the button to seek and delete any others that might be lurking on your hard drive. Actually, you could do that immediately before extracting your new, downloaded version without causing any harm to your PC.
Simply click on the appropriate link below to download and automatically extract the ctl3d32.dll file. Ctl3d32.dll (95 version) The new file will be unzipped to the proper place on your computer.
8) Do you have to do an archive for it to email the report automatically to someone? No. Scheduler can be setup to only eMail reports to recipients
9) How do I setup FAXing in SpooliT Faxes can be sent from SpooliT, as long as they can be sent from Microsoft Outlook or Microsoft Word. The best configuration is Windows 2000 and
Office 2000 because you don't need to buy a faxing software. Windows 2000
supports Microsoft At Fax, which is free of charge. Note that these procedures only apply if you have installed Outlook with the Corporate Workgroup/Other option. To determine if Microsoft Outlook is configured correctly to be fax compatible, click About Microsoft Outlook on the Help menu. If Corporate Or Workgroup is displayed under the product version, then Outlook is configured to be fax compatible. This option allows you to use Messaging Application Programming Interface (MAPI) services. Faxes cannot be sent with the following configuration: Outlook 2000 and Windows NT Outlook Express Outlook configured as an Internet service Lotus Notes Windows Millenium (more information about Microsoft fax and Windows Millenium on http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q258/6/89.ASP)
10) The system's IP address is not valid Enter the following command on a terminal emulation to check the AS/400 TCP/IP address:- NETSTAT *IFC The system address is the Internet address (it is not the 127.0.0.1 one). You should also verify that TCP/IP is active: the Interface status should be active
11) Can SpooliT run using a restricted User profile ?
1. Right Click on the c:\spoolit folder and then click the "Security Tab"
12) How can I duplicate client installations in my work place ? Copying the ‘SpooliT Server.ini’, ‘SpooliT Explorer.ini’, ‘SpooliT Browser.ini’ and/or ‘SpooliT Viewer.ini’ configuration files from one PC client to another. This ensures that you don’t need to setuo SpooliT on 100 separate PC client PC’s individually, or go thru the SpooliT wizard and SpooliT configuration screens each time.
13) There are no print queues displaying in the Treeview pane.
Some reasons why the as400 outqs are not visible are..
1. User did not double click the printer queues node.
14) We Cant give out our Serial number over web. What are our options? Send us an eMAIL and one of our consultants will phone you to arrange new keys.
15) Authorization codes have expired or are incorrect. The serial number given during registration on our page must equal the serial no. of the AS400 you are connecting to.
16) Can I connect to multiple as400's with the DEMO version?. The DEMO version supports only one as400 connection
17) Auth codes have expired. How/where do you enter the new codes if I have received an extension? Start SpooliT. Enter the new code in the prompt. Press Continue.
18) How do I enter "TRACE MODE"?
1. Select "Options" from the "Tools" menu.
19) Restricting a PC client to only see spool files that belong to them.
1. Select "Security" from the "View" menu.
20) Restricting a user from changing ‘SpooliT configuration’ options on the PC client
1. Select "Security" from the "View" menu.
21) My SpooliT Archive dB is corrupted. To avoid unnecesary delays, please ensure that you include the SpooliT400.mdb file and the 0.1.zip file as part of your regular network backup
22) I am having problems with setting up a connection
Please check the following steps:
To remove Port 21 restriction for UserID "QSECOFR"
SpooliT can be setup to archive spoolfiles using a generic profile to a location that Users can access via the SpooliT Viewer product. These profiles do have the required access to perform FTP but the profile cant be used to sign on to the system. It is used only by SpooliT to enable communications and manage and view spool files. These user profiles can then be used by any number of users as required.
24) Do scheduled jobs run on the AS400? No. SpooliT runs as a client job accessing the as400 only when it needs to, thus saving valuable CPU time on the as400
25) If I open up the ‘Printer Queues’ node I cant see my new OUTQ’s SpooliT only refreshes the OUTQ’s displayed under the ‘Printer Queues’ node when the user double clicks. This is done to ensure SpooliT operates quickly as a full refresh every time could be slow.
26) The number of spool files displayed in my OUTQ’s appears to be incorrect. SpooliT only refreshes the OUTQ’s displayed under the ‘Printer Queues’ node when the user double clicks. This is done to ensure SpooliT operates quickly as a full refresh every time could be slow. If this was to be dynamically linked to the n o. of files in an OUTQ it would slow down SpooliT. The number of files is an indication only unless the queue has been refreshed.
27) Where are my spool files archived?
Spoolit uses an access database to store key information for every spoolfile archived
Multi Archiving.
29) I setup an archive on a dynamically mapped drive but now it's gone Once a SpooliT archive is created on a network drive (ie. "S:") it must remain static, that is, next time the user signs on it does not now become the t: drive. This would confuse SpooliT.
